Great Moravian fortress Kylešovice near Opava
The fortified settlement is situated in the inundation of the right bank of the Opava river at the confluence with Moravice. It is a one-piece fortification of the lowland type with an area of about 1.5 hectares. We rank it among the key Slavic localities on the Moravian-Silesian border in the 10th - 11th century.
The fortified settlement has an irregular oval shape with a slightly bowl-shaped curved center and a longer axis oriented in the northwest-southeast direction and with a central plateau measuring 65 x 45 m, rising 4.5 to 5 m above the surrounding terrain. The maximum current dimensions are approximately 130 x 85 m. Several archaeological excavations have been carried out on the fortified settlement, thanks to which we have documented the settlement of this location in the 9th to 12th centuries.
