DEPARTMENT OF ARCHEOLOGY FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY | UNIVERSITY OF WEST BOHEMIA IN PILSEN
The Department of Archeology provides teaching of archeology, especially archeology of prehistoric, medieval and modern times. Many teachers are among our top scientists. The aim of teaching archeology at UWB is to educate university students on the basis of archeology. Graduates are expected to gain a deep understanding of the past artifact's heritage and its significance for contemporary humanity, while also acquiring a range of knowledge and skills that other social sciences do not provide (extensive use of computer software, such as databases and geographic information systems, use of GPS, digital photography, aerial photography) etc.). One of the goals is to educate specialists in archeology and related disciplines and prepare students for further education in archeology.
The Department of Archeology creates a research center similar to Western European universities. It develops basic research in theoretical and field archeology, solves problems of archaeological methodology, spatial and non-destructive archeology, creation of complex archaeological databases and processing of spatial archaeological data using geographic information systems.
